Letting Go Of Summer…

Well, summer isn't over yet - it's actually a beautiful warm day today isn't it? And yet when we move in to September, for me there is always that feeling that we are moving towards the ending of summer, a letting go feeling.

Letting Go:

Speaking of letting go, some of you may remember my past reflections in previous years on the transition of summer to autumn, which I have always resisted and even resented, if I'm honest.  I've realised over recent years (largely thanks to the yoga teachings) that I'm a bit of a clinger - I don't like endings and my tendency is to ruminate in the feeling of loss.

My theme for this week and next in yoga is this very thing - letting go.  We will be looking at the concept of "Aparigraha" - non- clinging and non-attachment, which the wisdom of yoga encourages us to embrace.  We can't always control our natural reactions and feelings to situations and experiences, but what we can do is notice them, be aware of them, and then shift our energy elsewhere using the power of intention.

This is extremely powerful for me, I can sit with the feelings of sadness, loss and resistance - and then channel my energy and thoughts consciously in to gratitude.  I think that gratitude is the key to letting go -  if we can root down deep in to gratitude, whether it's for what we have had, what we have got, or what we will have - it paves the way for acceptance and letting go.

The Tibetan monks used to make intricate sand mandalas - using dyed sands and precious stones, which they would take days or longer to make. They would then ceremoniously deliberately wash it all away, in honour of the fact that nothing in life is permanent - and wishing it were so only causes suffering. They would wash the sand back in to the rivers and sea to symbolise the ever moving and flowing cycle of life - its so beautiful.  (We saw one that someone had made on the beach in San Sebastian - see the pic below).

How do you feel about the end of summer? And how are you feeling about getting back on the mat?

Intention:

I'm channeling some good positive intention now to move us forwards in to September and Autumn - and here are some things I know you will agree that we can all look forward to... the colours in nature, crisp fresh days, a feeling of fresh starts, a sense of devotion to discipline after a summer break, re-establishing healthy routines and rhythms of self care, an assessment of where we are at this point in the year and where we would like to be, and of course, getting back on the mat regularly.

However you feel about summer to Autumn, I can't wait to see you on the mat, and we can work together to set some rock solid Autumn intention.

If you haven't been to my Home Satya Studio yet, I'd love to see you. I live not far from Coldfall school, where we used to have our classes. If you fancy joining, me, get yourself booked in.  See below for more info.

Just a reminder too that you can drop in to the online zoom live classes any time - you can sign up to them via the normal class booking link (you don't have to be a monthly subscriber). See below for more info.

Also now is a really good time to try a new class or add a new class to your weekly schedule - so why not set yourself a challenge and try something new?

I can't wait to see you.
