YOGA

YOGA

This class is for you if: You are looking for a class which combines mindfulness and relaxation with physical strength and flexibility. Yoga classes are always low impact which means no jumping, and they can vary from a dynamic flow to a more gentle static practice. See our instructor profiles to see which class might suit you best.

What to bring: Water bottle, comfortable layers of clothing. Mats provided, and classes done in bare feet.

YOGA

RESTORATIVE YOGA

This class is for you if: You are looking for a slower and less dynamic yoga class, to help you stretch out, gently strengthen and relax. Unlike a vinyasa class (which moves more quickly), this class is a sequence based on gentle slow movements, where poses are held for longer. There is a focus on the breath, and also mindfulness techniques to allow the body and mind to gently let go.

What to bring: Water bottle, comfortable layers of clothing. Mats provided, and classes done in bare feet.

YOGA

VINYASA FLOW YOGA

This class is for you if: You like your yoga class to be dynamic and energising, and to generate some heat and energy as well as have a lovely stretch too. There is a flowing sequence of movements which can be modified for all levels, with a mixture of standing, seated and lying poses. Ending with a relaxing savasana at the end.

What to bring: Water bottle, comfortable layers of clothing. Mats provided, and classes done in bare feet.

Just over a year ago, I persuaded my 17-year-old daughter, Molly, to come to a yoga class with me. I thought it would be a one-off, but she was instantly hooked. Now we go to Mel’s Monday class and Vikki’’s Thursday class together every week, and she has persuaded me to go to Ballet Tone on a Tuesday evening! It’s been lovely seeing my daughter enjoy the benefits of yoga, both physical and mental, and to enjoy a mother and daughter evening together. She has now overtaken me in (some) of the poses, but I am desperately trying to keep up with her. The lovely thing about our yoga classes is that everyone can find their own level and grow from there – whatever your age!

PILATES

This class is for you if: You have suffered back pain or back injury in the past, and / or you need to improve your posture or core strength. Pilates is slow and controlled, and strengthens and tones the whole body.

PILATES ON THE BALL

This class is for you if: You would like to take your pilates and toning work to a new level, to really target and improve your core strength and to try something a bit different. The class is more dynamic than mat-based pilates, with more upbeat music and more movement although there is still no jumping and it’s all low impact.

What to bring: Water bottle, comfortable layers of clothing. Mats provided, and classes done in bare feet.

PILATES

BALLET TONE

This class is for you if: You are looking for a class to tone up your whole body and to improve balance and core strength. Maybe you used to do ballet classes in the past, but no ballet experience is actually required to do this class. It involves exercises and movements based on ballet postures, and is really good for toning the legs, bum and arms.

What to bring: Water bottle, comfortable layers of clothing. Mats provided, and classes done in bare feet.

Having tried various gyms in Muswell Hill and Crouch End, I can say that JCW fitness has the best classes around. I love the variety of classes, the fact that you don’t have to book and the total lack of judgement – everyone works at their own level and there is always camaraderie in the room.  Since I started four years ago my husband and my daughter have both joined and we love going to classes together.  We’ve all made friends and improved our fitness hugely and Jane’s cheerfulness is always a bonus on a Saturday morning.

This class is for you if: You enjoy a dance-based workout and to get fit the fun way! Zumba classes include a mix of different types of music, from latin to jive, and pop to dance. The dance moves are simple and easy to follow, especially when you have done the routine a few times. The fun way to get fit and burn fat!

DANCE FIT & TONE

This class is for you if: You enjoy dance-based choreography, to raise the heart rate the fun way! Funky dance aerobics to burn fat and improve fitness, sometimes followed by toning and strengthening exercises using hand weights (provided). You don’t need to have any dance experience or skills, just a pair of trainers, a bottle of water and a smile!

This class is for you if: You love a class with a dance-based cardio routine to great music, but you also love the deeper core and toning work too, so this class gives you the best of both worlds all rolled into one class!
